Furneaux Museum Update

A few this happening at the Museum of late. Here is an update by President Bron Grutzner from the Augusts 3rd addition of the Island News.

NEW EXHIBITION – Now on display for the first time is a selection of photographic equipment donated to the Museum by the estate of George Coster of Emita. The exhibition includes not just old cameras and darkroom equipment, but also some of George’s photos from the 1930s & 40s, and the stories of other amateur photographers from the past with connections to the island today. The exhibition can be viewed any Saturday of Sunday, 1 pm-4 pm.

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW VIDEO – This very successful event held at the Museum in May was filmed by Sammi & AK. an edited (30 min) video will soon be available to view at the Museum during opening hours, with copies on USB sticks for sale at minimal cost. Details will be posted in the Island News and on Facebook when available.

LIGHTING UPGRADES – We are grateful to Council for funding which has enabled the lighting system in the exhibition hall to be improved and upgraded to LED. at the same time, the Museum took the opportunity to replace the lights in the Nissen Hut.  The change to LED lighting in these two buildings will mean lower running costs and less maintenance in the future.

Thank you Bron for your update and to the volunteers for all the work they do to keep the Museum running.
