On Saturday the 15th of October the majority of Flinders Island residence and visitors were getting themselves ready for the annual Flinders Island Volunteer Ambulance Cabaret. The theme for this years cabaret was ‘School Days’, the theme is to coincide with the centenary celebration of the school.
The normal thing to do on cabaret night is to get dressed up in your outrageous costume at yours or a friends house where you may drink a bottle of wine or two and then meet at the local pub (Interstate Hotel) for a few more beverages. After a few hours the pub will start flickering the lights in the bar and that’s our (the locals) cue to get out and start moving down the street to the entertainment centre.
This year the entertainment centre was decorated with lots of balloons and paper table clothes on the tables. There was a small assortment of crayons and pencils on the table, so naturally we decided to write inappropriate and silly comments on the tables because as you know that’s what we did most of the time at school while we where supposed to be working. ha ha!
Local band Nautilaus played for everyone entertainment and we all danced on late into the night. Drinks were flowing and people were laughing and having a fantastic night.
All in all it was a great night and i hope all who attended had lots of fun. We should all say a big thank you to the volunteers of the ambulance service who continue to help other when in need and expect nothing in return. You all organised a fantastic night every year and for that i say thank you!!
