Rental Car Flinders Island
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Flinders Island Car Rentals have a large range of Hire cars on Flinders Island from small sedans, large sedans, station wagons, Ute and minibuses. The large sedans for hire have traditionally been Mitsubishi Magna’s with automatic transmission, the oldest member of our large sedan hire car fleet is white sedan one or W/S 1 for short a 2000 Mitsubishi Magna Executive sedan automatic purchased in July 2007. The hire car has been very reliable and well used as a rental car traveling in excess of 85,000 kilometers around Flinders Island; from Politicians to retires it has transported its share of visitors over the last few years. The Magna hire car has ample room for 5 adults, especially those blessed with taller physiques and huge boot space for everyone’s luggage. The 3.5 L petrol engine is powerful and responsive especially when you drive up to the many scenic lookouts like Walkers or Mt. Tanner. Front Wheel means greater control when navigating the gravel roads on Flinders Island and with the combination of power steering and air conditioning offering a comfortable cool drive. Especially on a hot summers day Flinders Island temperatures can reach over 30 degrees, but with over 120 beaches to choose from you will always be able to drive to a secluded beach to cool off.
Hire Cars on Flinders Island always have their fair share of minor scrapes and plenty of stone chips this Magna sedan is no different. It’s most interesting bingle came after a long drive back from Trousers Point when three ladies had gone out for tea and where on their way back to their accommodation. One lady passenger congratulated the lady driver as they pulled in the driveway on avoiding the wildlife and getting them back safely and as the driver was about to park the car she pulled too close to the concrete step, damaging the BullBar and bumper. It hasn’t deterred them from visiting Flinders though they have been back again twice and will visit again in the future always keeping a look out for wildlife and concrete steps.
With the abundant Wildlife around the Island Flinders Island Car Rentals do advise to drive carefully at night and do not try to avoid the Wallabies or wombats by swerving. The hire car bumpers and bull bars are much cheaper to replace than human life and we recommend not taking chances with yours or your passengers.
Hire Car Flinders Island
Wednesday, February 16th, 2011The 2004 Toyota Corolla Sedan is one of the newer cars of the Flinders Island Car Rentals fleet. This car was purchase off a lovely lady on Flinders Island about a year ago. This particular car is one of the favourites and our customers love hiring it out. It has a smooth automatic gear change and power steering to make driving around Flinders Island as comfortable and as easy as possible. With its soft seating and lots of leg room you defiantly would want to drive your family round on holidays in this car. With its spacious boot you could throw the esky and boogie boards in the back and go down to one of our pristine beaches and have a BBQ and swim.
This car will go everywhere and anywhere on Flinders Island. Maybe drive to one of our many secluded beaches and picnic areas, go out for lunch or dinner at the Furneaux Tavern at Lady Barron, Interstate Hotel at Whitemark, Vistas on Trousers Point at Trousers Point (turn off to Trousers Point is along the main road to Lady Barron) or JJ’s on the Bay at Killiecrankie. Drive to Emita and have a look at the Furneaux Museum for some history about Flinders Island.
Julie as we at Flinders Island Car Rentals like to call her has no internally or externally damage apart from one incident where a gentleman thought the tiers needed more air and took all of the rims off the tiers, filled them up with more air which wasn’t necessary and then tried to put the rims back on the tiers with excessive force which ended up cracking most of them. As Rowena and Tamara drove through the main street of Whitemark and witnessed the gentleman wresling with the wheel they stoped to offer assistance but at this point the he managed to get them back on the car. On the upside its not permanent damage and we will have it fixed in no time.
So for your next visit to Flinders Island come and hire Flinders Island Car Rentals 2004 Toyota Corolla Sedan and travel round in luxury.
Ute Hire Flinders Island
Thursday, January 20th, 2011In 2000 after looking long and hard for another Station Wagon to join the Flinders Island Car Rentals hire car fleet and not finding one we decide to purchase a Dual Cab Ute. Thinking Tradesmen and Fishermen would appreciate the ability to throw the tools or rods in the tray and not have to be concerned with damaging the interior of a station wagon the 2000 Ford Courier Dual Cab has been a great utility to hire out. With vinyl flooring which means no carpet it is by far the fastest and easiest hire car to clean and keep clean. The tub tray has plenty of room for gear like, eskies, tools, fishing rods and luggage and with five seats and room for four adults comfortably it’s perfect for a group of blokes on Island for a weekend of fishing and barbequing.
Over the years the Ute has travelled over 100,000 kilometres on Flinders Island, transported many a fish and probably heard plenty of tales about the ones that got away. Absentee Flinders Island residents like being able to hire the Ute do to some back yard blitzing, load up the tray and take all the unwanted debris to the tip. The Ute endures quite a bit of rough treatment, with fishermen keen to go wherever the fish are biting sometimes down the no go dirt tracks , but to our knowledge the Ute has not been bogged yet. Its front bumper has been replaced twice and the bull bar reinforced to protect the bumper from a third replacement.
The “Dual Cab” as we call it will continue to be a valuable hire car in the Flinders Island Car Rentals fleet and we have plans to soon replace the tub tray with a flat tray to make it even more versatile.
Hire Car Flinders Island
Monday, December 6th, 2010The 1999 Ford Laser Sedan or laser one for short was one of the first new additions to the Flinders Island Car Rentals fleet of 10 hire cars that were purchased from the original owners David and Anne Campbell back in 2005. After much searching around Launceston for a small sedan to join the fleet Justin finally found the little white laser in a car yard, it had spent the last couple of years in Devonport so it was used to the sea breeze and would fit right in to the hire car fleet at Flinders Island Car Rentals.
Over the years it has done many kilometres around the island ferrying business people to meetings and appointments and tourists to every beach and lookout on offer. It’s a fairy responsive little car considering the 1.6 litre engine and offers excellent fuel economy for visitors that wish to explore every inch of Flinders Island by road, some roads multiple times. As it’s a manual the laser is a real drivers car giving you a feeling of control as you navigate some of the gravel roads around the island. With fully adjustable front seats and folding rear seats the laser can be tailored to meet the needs of any driver and any holiday pursuit, with room for a small esky or set of fishing rods.
The laser has some interesting tales to tell, on it’s very first hire the couple on holiday decided to visit the Whitemark Bakery for lunch and parked a little close to curb, breaking the wheel trim and damaging the hirers’ pride more than the hire car. This summer will be the last summer for the Laser as a hire car, it will be retired after Easter and go on to lead a less exciting life as a regular car on Flinders Island.
Overall a great little hire car for travelling around Flinders Island.
Work on Flinders Island.
Friday, December 3rd, 2010My first day at Flinders Island Car Rental we mostly talking about how the business is run and what my position will require of me, which is a bit scary when you have never worked in tourism and with hire cars, but Rowena has decided that slowly working through aspects of the business will help me learn them faster and more efficiently. The biggest challenge for me is the hire cars. I was able to drive around 2 of the cars to get the feel for them and find my own ways to recognise different characteristics, which in the long run will help me remember each car like I would a person.
My first little zip around Flinders Island was in the 1999 Ford Laser Sedan. At first I was a bit worried about driving a with gears and hoping I didn’t stall in front of Justin as this would not make a good impression of my driving skills, but the hire car was perfect for me. I don’t often drive a manual transmission but the Laser was so great, it has an easy manual transmission, the seats are comfy and rear seats fold back for more room if required, the hire car was very clean due to the fact Rowena & Justin have a very high standard for their cars and it drove very smooth and was very quiet. Great little hire car for Travelling around Flinders Island. Perfect for a couple on holiday or someone on a business trip.
Next was the 2000 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. I like to think of it as a little white bubbly car. Good small hire car to drive. It was also a manual which had me worried. Again the hire car was great to drive. I didn’t so much have doubt about the cars condition just my gear changing skills. The seats are super comfy, it was a very smooth drive, extremely easy to park in tight spots due to its size, fuel efficient, and it would be great for a couple on holidays or a small family. I really enjoyed driving this hire car.
Apart from driving around Flinders Island in the hire cars, I also got the chance to grab a few pictures of each car parked in different and beautiful locations situated around Flinders Island, which I will shortly load on to the Flinders Island Car Rental website.
I hope you all enjoy my first ever blog and look forward to seeing some more on the Flinders Island Car Rental Website. Also if anyone has any upcoming information about activities on Flinders Island please let us know, you will find all the our contact details on our website.
Thankyou,

Sunday, July 4th, 2010At Flinders Island Car Rentals each of our 14 hire cars and the 3 mini buses for hire have a nickname. With one hire car a Mitsubishi Magna called ‘Ann’ and another Toyota Corolla called ‘Julie’, the nicknames give each car it’s own identity. With so many rental cars to keep track of nearly all of them white in colour and of a similar make and model nicknames make discussing hire car movements easier. Some of our previous hire cars have been called “Christine”, “the Apollo”, “red van” or “bongo van” and the “DH”.

Monday, June 6th, 2011This was sent to Flinders Island Car Rentals by a lovely couple Davis & Stephany Fehre that came to Flinders Island on the 27th May to the 30th May 2011, Here is what they had to say.
Our trip to Flinders was marvelous and we only wished that it had been a longer stay. In the four days we managed to see many places but know that there are others we would like to see or visit again. The weather was kind to us and the accommodation was very warm and comfortable. We enjoyed driving the car and being on such good flat roads. The scenery was always interesting and the views from higher ground were breath taking. The peace was amazing, and those incredible beaches, rocks and mountains have to be seen to be believed.
Thank you for your excellent service which we will heartily recommend to friends and family.
Mr & Mrs Fehre hire the 2000 Mitsubishi Magna Sedan Automatic from Flinders Island Car Rentals.
