The Strait Works Gallery has a new exhibition every month.
The gallery has the works of many very talented Flinders Islanders and is something to have a look at next time your in Whitemark.
The Gallery is run by volunteers who give up their time to create the art and run the gallery.
I have taken some photos of the latest exhibition of felt work. The work is fantastic and the creators are exceptional at what they do.
This is a shop like no other on Flinders Island!
People of the community donate unwanted items to the shop (like an op shop) and Jon either sells them as they are or turns them in to an art piece. I have noticed a lot of books have been given to the shop, so if you’re looking for a good book, pop in and find one! You make like to purchase a one of a kind piece that Jon has made or you might just see something you like and grab that.
Next time you’re in Whitemark, take a look through the shop. You might see something you like.

Come along and share in the family fun!
Stalls, Art Fair, Sculptures Workshops, Palm Reading and food, all to a backdrop of preformances by local artisits and musicians.

Friday 31st August – Pasta Night at The Sports Club, Pasta night at The Sports & RSL Club followed by a motivational talk from Sam Crawthorn
Saturday 1st September – Pub 2 Pub (25.4km), Starting at the Furneaux Tavern (8am for walkers, 9am for runners) and finishing @ The Interstate Hotel followed up with soup and bread at The Interstate. If 25.4km is a little too far for you then enter a walking team of 2 or 4 people.
Dinner at Deepbite Cafe, Killiecrankie on Saturday Evening- Join Charlie Graham at Killiecrankie for an evening of live music and food. Bus transport provided from Lady Barron and Whitemark.
Sunday 2nd September – Flinders 5 (starts @ 11am), The Flinders 5 Fun Run is starting and finishing @ The Flinders Island Sports & RSL Club. After the race there will be a healthy BBQ and presentations.

Walk 28 in the Walks of Flinders Island book. This beach walk is an excellent finale to a stay on Flinders Island. If it is at all possible arrange to leave your luggage at the airport prior to departure.
After leaving the hire vehicle is town – Whitemark – proceed to the wharf area and jump a fence to gain access to the beach or alternatively walk North along the made road for about 100 metres until you can gain access to the beach. At low or high tide the sand at Whitemark beach is coarse and the going can be a little arduous. In summer be sure to take sun protection and water as there is little shelter. Take in the character of the island along these shores and the scenic backdrop of the outer island to the West. Using your Tasmap as a guide pick up the asphalter Bluff Road as you turn into the final straight before arriving at the Airport. The wind in the Casuarina tree always makes for a lasting impression of the uniqueness and tranquillity of Flinders Island!

As you enter Whitemark on Lagoon road, you will find Flinders Island bakery situated on the left hand side of the street. As you walk into the bakery, the smell of the freshly cooked bread fills the air. The display is filled with cakes made fresh every day, and the pie warmer is filled with award winning pastries such as; Plain Beef $3.80, Mushroom $4.00, Onion $4.00, Lamb/Curry $4.40, Chicken/Corn $4.40, Wallaby Pie $4.70. The friendly staff will greet you as you enter. Eat in or take away, the bakery is open from 8am till 5pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8am until 12pm.
