North East River Flinders Island

North East River and Holloway to Stanley Point in walk number 4 in the book ‘The Walks Of Flinders Island’.

Every visitor to Flinders Island Must visit North East River. More tidal estuary than an actual river, this is one of the jewels of the Furneaux group. Magnificent views along Foo Chow Beach to The Patriarchs and Bable Island are unsurpassed and as well the Inner and Outer Sisters (Islands) can present a more alluring backdrop particularly if there is a strong wind blowing through the Sisters Passage.

After driving as far as is possible out towards Holloway Point make your way on foot to the navigational beacon for great views of the surrounding coast. Strike out from the rocky shoreline and head roughly West back towards the sandy beach which is just below a lovely campsite which you would have driven past a little earlier. From this point you can head back towards the car park or alternatively you may like to head out for Stanley Point along the granite slabs. This walk is relatively easy if not longer than the map indicates. A far quicker return from Stanley Point to your vehicle or campsite can be made via a vehicular track marked on the Flinders Island Natmap.

This walk is can take 15-30 minutes, 2-3 hours return and is about 5 km.
